Beginnings

Hello, world!  As a software engineer my day job is 100% software.  JavaScript mostly, but still a fair amount of low-level C++.  I've always been interested in computers and how they work, but until very recently I've focused almost exclusively on the software side.  I took a few electronics and circuits classes in college, and although doing well in the classes left without any intuition or understanding of how exactly this whole hardware thing worked.  Sure I could recite V=IR and solve for voltages and plot currents, but in the end I left with no useful knowledge to actually do something cool!  This blog is my adventure away from the safe world of while loops and compilers into the scary resistors, capacitors, and op amps of the other side.
